Barra Vieja, Mexico, February 16, 2012 – Juan Carlos Gonzales Segovia, nicknamed ‘Chango León’, uses branches to cover coconuts from the hot sun at Campamento Tortuguera, an organization that works to save the turtles from human predators. Chango León volunteers his time at the camp in exchange for food and a small stipend. <br />

The camp has been around since 1999 and survives via donations from the public. In addition to harvesting the baby turtles, it encourages educational opportunities by offering night tours, turtle releases and school tours.
