  • Tijuana, Baja California, MX, Oct. 14, 2007 - A view from a burned out house next to the border fence, two women walk past on their way home home from church, in the Otay section of Tijuana. Otay is one of the poorest neighborhoods, but is more self sufficient and has less crime and drugs than other parts of the city. However, the U.S. Border Patrol says that this area is one of the more popular crossings in the area.

  • San Diego, Oct. 20, 2007 - Husband, Gustavo Sanchez reaches through the border fence at Border State Park to his wife, Vanessa, who is on the Tijuana side. The couple have been married for just over a year. They are separarted by the border: he is a U. S. citizen and she a Mexican citizen. Their access to one another is limited, as she cannot get a visa and he is on parole. The couple meets here on the weekends as it offers the only place the couple can touch one another.

  • Tijuana, Baja California, MX, Oct. 14, 2007 - Two young men (refused to give their names) watch for the the U.S. Border Patrol as they try to cross in the Otay section of Tijuana. The two said they were crossing to find jobs to help support their families. The U.S. Border Patrol says that this area is one of the more popular crossings in the area.

  • Tecate, Baja California, MX, Oct. 14, 2007 - Octavio Ramon, 12, lower left, cries along with his grandmother, Beatrice, and cousin Hector, at the coffin of his grandfather, Raul, who was killed by drug dealers on his way home from work. The U.S. Border Patrol says that Tijuana is the largest entry point for drug smuggling into the U.S. As they have struggled to get this under control, the smugglers are looking for new entry points, such as in Tecate and beyond.
