Considered the oldest surfer in Ventura County, Jack Cantrell, 78, at Mondo's Point, Ventura, Calif., Thursday, Dec. 7, 2006. Cantrell says he learned to surf at Mondo's Point towards the end of summer in 1953. When asked why the end of summer, he replied, "It took me the whole summer to build the surfboard. He soon created a surf club comprised of several of his closest friends. Cantrell even says that he built his house near Mondo's just because he likes the way the waves break there. "The young kids won't surf here because of the way the waves break, but for me and my long board, they are just perfect."
